Meet Dr Sharma
Dr Niranjan Sharma (MBBS, FRNZCGP, FRACGP, PhD, Advanced Training in General and Organ Train Surgery, Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine, Professional Certificate in Dermoscope) has extensive training in gastrointestinal and organ transplant surgery, as well as specialised expertise in skin cancer medicine.
He obtained his medical degree in his home country of Nepal. He completed further advanced surgical training in gastrointestinal and organ transplant surgery in Japan and has a PhD in this field.
He has worked as an Assistant Surgeon in Japan before moving to New Zealand. After working as a Surgical Registrar in Wellington, he chose General Practice as a career – for a better work and life balance. He moved to Dunedin in 2000 with his family.
He completed his Fellowship in General Practice from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice in 2010 and Royal Australian College of Australia in 2016.
He has undertaken additional training in skin cancer medicine, surgery and Dermoscopy.
He has a special interest in skin diseases and minor surgery for skin cancer (and non-cancerous) lesions, and other lumps and bumps. He performs the Vandenboss Procedure for ingrown toenail. He also performs the No Needle,No Scalpel Vasectomy, circumcision, penile frenulectomy under local anaesthesia.
He is WellSouth Primary Health Network Accredited GP with Special Interest in Skin [GPSI].
In his leisure time, he likes spend time with family and friends. He is fluent in Nepali, Japanese and Hindi languages beside English. He is a keen tramper. He likes to travel and meet people from different walks of life during leisure time.
